New Lives Washington was formed in 2011 to provide the service of making information on former racehorses in Washington State available to the public.

Whether Thoroughbreds or Quarter Horses, racehorses are exceptional athletes, able to do so much more than fly around a racetrack, thrilling fans as they go.  Former racehorses can be trail horses or devoted companions, can compete as Hunter/Jumpers, Dressage or Polo mounts, Barrel Racers and much, much more. They can excel as Police Mounts. They are seen making the rounds at 4-H shows, Pony Club rallies, and shining as members of High School and College Equestrian Teams. Their devotion to their people makes them especially responsive to Natural Horsemanship techniques.  Endurance and Competitive Trail rides are yet another area where they shine.

Unfortunately, due to a lack of education and communication, many former or would-be racehorses end up going to slaughter because no-one who values them for anything other than crossing the finish line first knows that they are available.  New Lives Washington exists to change that!
